Q1: What inspired you to pursue cricket professionally?
Ayush Mhatre:
“Cricket has always been a huge part of my life. I started playing when I was five. But it was around 15 that I got really serious. I used to travel almost 80 km from Virar to Churchgate every day just to train at better facilities. That journey taught me discipline, sacrifice, and how badly I wanted this.”
Q2: How did it feel to break Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy?
Ayush Mhatre:
“It was unreal. Yashasvi is someone I’ve always admired — we both came up from Mumbai’s system. To break his record for the youngest to score 150+ in a List A match was emotional. But more than the record, I was happy that my knock helped the team.”
Q3: What was your reaction when you got the call from Chennai Super Kings?
Ayush Mhatre:
“I thought it was a prank at first! Playing for CSK, one of the most iconic IPL teams, is every young cricketer’s dream. And the thought of sharing a dressing room with MS Dhoni — it’s just insane. I haven’t had a proper conversation with him yet, but even just being around him is inspiring.”
Q4: How did it feel to make your IPL debut?
Ayush Mhatre:
“Unreal. I was nervous, but the team made me feel at home. I just told myself to play my natural game. Scoring 32 off 15 balls in my debut innings — it gave me a lot of confidence that I belong here.”
Q5: What are your goals moving forward?
Ayush Mhatre:
“Right now, I want to stay consistent, perform well in domestic cricket, and keep learning in the IPL. My ultimate dream is to play for India, and I know that every run I score brings me one step closer.”
Q6: Any advice for young aspiring cricketers?
Ayush Mhatre:
“Believe in your journey, even if it’s tough. Talent is just the start — hard work, patience, and routine will take you far. Keep your head down, learn from your failures, and never stop enjoying the game.”
